Update (10:30 SAST, 31 October 2026): On Friday evening the City said parts of the bulk network are still under pressure in Regions 1 and 3, with improvement in parts of Region 6, and Bronkhorstspruit water is awaiting a second round of lab tests (City of Tshwane on X). Today's coverage continues here: Tshwane water outages (31 October 2026).
Parts of Tshwane are still dealing with dry taps, low pressure and overnight restrictions on Friday, 30 October 2026. In its latest notice, posted early this morning, the City of Tshwane says exceptionally high water use is still straining reservoirs in Regions 1, 3, 4 and 6, and that improved storage in some reservoirs "does not mean that supply has stabilised throughout the network, particularly in high-lying areas" (City of Tshwane on X).
In Bronkhorstspruit, treated water has reached the treatment plant's final clear water tank for the first time since the shutdown, but residents still can't use tap water. The first lab results are expected today (City of Tshwane on X).
Which Tshwane areas are affected today?
These are the systems the city lists as still under pressure. If your suburb is fed by one of them, expect low pressure, interruptions or no water, especially on high ground (City of Tshwane on X).
| Region | Systems under pressure | Systems the city says are coping |
|---|---|---|
| Region 1 | Mabopane Main, Mabopane Central, Mabopane Reservoir, Garankuwa Industrial, Garankuwa West, Soshanguve L Tower (low), Kruisfontein East | Akasia, Florauna, Klipgat, Winterveld |
| Region 3 | Heights High-Level and Low-Level, Klapperkop, Pretoria West High-Level, Queenswood, Lynnwood Square, Magalies | Atteridgeville Low-Level, Hercules, Lotus Gardens, Salvokop, Waterkloof |
| Region 4 | Bakenkop, Brakfontein (tower particularly low), Clifton, parts of Doringkloof | Atteridgeville High-Level, Laudium, Louwlardia, Rooihuiskraal, The Reeds, Valhalla |
| Region 6 | Constantia Park, Derdepoort, Mooikloof, sections of Mamelodi | Garsfontein, Elardus Park, Erasmusrand, Moreleta, Eersterust |
On Thursday evening the city said the Mooikloof Reservoir had reached its lowest operational level and pumps were stopped. That reservoir feeds Faerie Glen, Garsfontein, parts of Moreleta Park, Pretoriuspark and nearby areas (City of Tshwane).
| Other areas | Status | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Bronkhorstspruit supply area | Plant still in commissioning. Do not use tap water. Tankers only | City of Tshwane on X |
| Region 7 informal settlements | Extra tanker deliveries on 29 October and Sunday, 1 November | City of Tshwane on X |
| Hammanskraal West, Kanana, Hammanskraal CBD, Renstown, Skampaneng, Tamboville, Hans Kekana, Suurman, parts of Majaneng and Mashimong | No safe piped water yet. Tankers continue | City of Tshwane on X |
| Pretoria CBD | Still supplied from Salvokop Reservoir while Findlay Reservoir repairs continue | City of Tshwane on X |
Why are taps still running dry?
The city blames very high consumption, which stops depleted reservoirs from refilling. Teams are regulating flows and restoring supply slowly on purpose, because reopening too quickly "can drain recovering reservoirs and prolong interruptions" (City of Tshwane on X).
In Hammanskraal, the remaining areas without safe piped water are affected by the continued closure of the Temba Water Treatment Plant, which the city says is not working after vandalism of its raw water infrastructure. A contractor has been appointed to assess the damage (City of Tshwane on X).
Is Bronkhorstspruit water safe yet?
No. Mayor Nasiphi Moya says Rand Water and the city have restored flow through the treatment and filtration systems to the final clear water tank, and shock chlorination is under way. Samples taken on 28 October went to Rand Water's laboratory, with initial results expected on Friday, 30 October (City of Tshwane on X).
The next step is filling the storage reservoir with treated water and more shock chlorination over 24 to 48 hours, followed by more testing. Safe supply will only start returning once tests confirm the water meets drinking standards (City of Tshwane on X).
When will water return?
The city has not given a restoration time for any of the systems under pressure. It says restoration "must follow the recovery of each system" (City of Tshwane on X).
There is also good news for parts of Hammanskraal. Ramotse, Marokolong, parts of Mandela Village, Babelegi Industrial, Kudube Units 1, 2, 3, 6, 10 and Unit D, and parts of Majaneng East now have safe drinking water through the municipal network, tested against SANS 241 standards (City of Tshwane on X).
What should residents do?
- If you still have water, use it only for essentials. Don't water gardens, wash cars or fill pools, and fix leaks (City of Tshwane on X).
- In the Bronkhorstspruit supply area, drink only water from city-approved tankers, not rivers, dams, wells, boreholes or other unverified sources (City of Tshwane on X).
- Report leaks and outages to the City of Tshwane on 012 358 9999 (City of Tshwane).
