Parts of Tshwane are still short of water on Saturday, 31 October 2026. In its latest update, issued on Friday evening, the City of Tshwane says the bulk water network is still under pressure from high consumption, especially in Regions 1 and 3, although conditions are improving in parts of Region 6 (City of Tshwane on X).

Bronkhorstspruit tap water is still not safe to drink. Water is now flowing through the full treatment process and the first lab results met the physical water-quality standards, but a second batch of samples is still being tested for germs (City of Tshwane on X).

The City has not published a fresh reservoir-by-reservoir list since Friday morning. See yesterday's article for the systems it listed then.

On X this morning, residents reported no water in parts of Atteridgeville and Soshanguve. These are residents' reports, not City confirmations. The City asked them to send their details by direct message so the outages can be logged (City of Tshwane on X).

Why are taps still running dry?

The City says high consumption is keeping parts of the bulk system under pressure. Teams are working with Rand Water to manage reservoir levels and flows and protect systems that are still struggling (City of Tshwane on X).

Is Bronkhorstspruit water safe yet?

Not yet. Mayor Nasiphi Moya says initial lab results confirmed the water meets the required physical parameters, and a second batch has gone for microbiological testing to check that disinfection is working (City of Tshwane on X).

Reservoir cleaning is also under way. The 15 ML Zithobeni Reservoir is ready for clear-water flushing, the 30 ML Zithobeni Reservoir is being cleaned, and cleaning at Ekandustria is about 50% done. Safe supply will only start once all testing confirms the water meets drinking standards (City of Tshwane on X).

What about Pretoria CBD and Findlay Reservoir?

The Fountains groundwater supply to Findlay Reservoir stays switched off after sewer problems reported on Thursday. The City says it will only be reconnected once assessments confirm it is compliant. Until then, Findlay gets treated Rand Water through the Salvokop system, and residents can use it as normal (City of Tshwane on X).

When will water return?

The City has not given a restoration time for Regions 1 and 3 or for Bronkhorstspruit. It says safe supply to Bronkhorstspruit will begin once the remaining commissioning steps and lab tests are complete (City of Tshwane on X).

What should residents do?

  • If you have water, use it only for essentials, because lower demand helps supply recover for others (City of Tshwane on X).
  • In the Bronkhorstspruit advisory area, drink only water from City-approved, verified tankers. Don't drink from rivers, dams, wells or boreholes (City of Tshwane on X).
  • Report water outages to the City on 012 358 9999 or by direct message to @CityTshwane on X.
