Update (10:05 SAST, 2 November 2026): Tshwane's water problems have carried into Monday, with Kruisfontein East and Atteridgeville High Level reservoirs now empty (City of Tshwane on X). Follow today's updates in our Tshwane water outages article for 2 November.

Large parts of Tshwane are still short of water on Sunday, 1 November 2026. In an update issued this morning, the City of Tshwane says its bulk water network remains under heavy pressure, especially in Regions 1, 3, 4 and 6, and several reservoirs still have critically low levels (City of Tshwane on X).

The City temporarily stopped supply to the Rooihuiskraal, Louwlardia, Brakfontein, Bakenkop and Heights reservoirs on Saturday night to help the network recover, but says the gains so far are fragile (City of Tshwane on X).

Why are taps still running dry in Tshwane?

The City says high consumption is the main problem, with water being used faster than some reservoirs can refill, along with limited incoming supply to the Soshanguve L and Mabopane systems (City of Tshwane on X).

When will water be back?

The City has not given restoration times for the reservoir systems. It says it is balancing water between reservoirs, controlling pumping and adjusting supply, and that lasting recovery depends on a sustained drop in water use (City of Tshwane on X). Planned pumping to the Carina Pump Station areas should help restore supply there (City of Tshwane on X). The only firm time given today is 13:00 for the Danville burst pipe (City of Tshwane on X).

In Region 7, flushing of the Zithobeni reservoirs does not mean the water is safe. The City says the water-use advisory stays in place until it officially announces otherwise (City of Tshwane on X).
