Tshwane water outages today (2 November 2026): affected areas, causes and when water returns
Tshwane's water crisis continues on 2 November 2026, with Kruisfontein East and Atteridgeville High Level reservoirs empty and Klapperkop and Heights almost empty. Here are the areas, causes and what to do.

Tshwane's water network is still under severe strain on Monday, 2 November 2026. In its morning update, the City of Tshwane says high consumption and limited incoming supply are slowing reservoir recovery in Regions 1, 3, 4 and 6, with water being used faster than some reservoirs can refill (City of Tshwane on X).
Several reservoirs are empty or almost empty, which means low pressure and further supply interruptions are likely, especially in high-lying areas (City of Tshwane on X).
Which Tshwane areas are affected today?
| Region | Latest status from the City | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Region 1 | Mabopane Main and Soshanguve L under pressure, especially high-lying areas supplied by the Soshanguve L Tower. Kruisfontein East Reservoir is empty. Ga-Rankuwa, Klipgat and Winterveld relatively stable | City of Tshwane on X |
| Region 3 | Most severely affected. Klapperkop and Heights High Level reservoirs critically low and almost empty, which affects supply further downstream. Carina Street, Atteridgeville Low Level and several central reservoirs have reasonable storage | City of Tshwane on X |
| Region 4 | Atteridgeville High Level Reservoir is empty and teams are rebuilding its level. Bakenkop, Brakfontein and Doringkloof under strain. Louwlardia, Rooihuiskraal and The Reeds have moderate storage | City of Tshwane on X |
| Region 6 | Mamelodi, Eersterust, Derdepoort and Parkmore Low Level under pressure and being monitored. Garsfontein, Elardus Park and Moreleta have better storage | City of Tshwane on X |
The City says conditions are most fragile in Regions 3 and 4, where critical reservoirs need sustained relief to recover (City of Tshwane on X).
Why are Tshwane reservoirs not recovering?
The City blames exceptionally high consumption and limited incoming supply. It is working with Rand Water to balance supply, apply controlled restrictions and reduce demand across the network (City of Tshwane on X).
In a statement on Sunday night, the City said it aims to cut water demand by 150 million litres a day. Its plan includes closing supply to the Heights high and low-level, Klapperkop and Garsfontein reservoirs every second day between 20:00 and 06:00, increasing production from its own sources, pressure management and action against illegal connections (City of Tshwane on X).
| Measure | What the City says | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Overnight closures | Heights, Klapperkop and Garsfontein reservoirs closed every second day, 20:00 to 06:00 | City of Tshwane on X |
| Own production | Roodeplaat Water Treatment Plant producing 35 million litres a day for the Montana reservoirs. Work under way to bring Rietvlei and the Fountains springs back into production | City of Tshwane on X |
| Illegal connections | Target of removing 100 illegal connections a month | City of Tshwane on X |
| Restrictions | Level 1 restrictions enforced with the TMPD. Level 2 restrictions remain under consideration | City of Tshwane on X |
When will water be back in Tshwane?
The City has not given restoration times. It says recovery will vary across supply areas as reservoirs and networks stabilise, and that water still flowing from your tap does not mean the system has recovered (City of Tshwane on X) (City of Tshwane on X).
What should Tshwane residents do?
- Use water only for essential needs. Stop watering gardens, washing cars with hosepipes and cleaning paving with drinking water (City of Tshwane on X).

- For tankers, the City's water tanker operation centre is coordinating deployments and sharing collection points and times through its platforms and ward structures (City of Tshwane on X).
