Update (09:00 SAST, 31 October 2026): Several of these outages have carried into Saturday. For the latest areas, causes and restoration updates, see Johannesburg power outages today (31 October 2026). This page will no longer be updated.

Update (18:50 SAST, 30 October 2026): Braamfontein, Braampark and parts of Joubert Park are without power after an outage at Braamfontein Substation that was first reported at about 10:00 this morning. City Power says operators are on site investigating the cause and has not given a restoration time (City Power, 30 Oct, 18:10; City Power, 30 Oct, 09:59). Separately, City Power says power is back on Smit Street in Braamfontein after vandalism to a mini substation (City Power, 30 Oct, 16:47), and parts of Joubert Park supplied by Fort Substation were restored at about 15:47 after a faulty cable was fixed (City Power, 30 Oct, 15:47). If you are still without power, log a call on citypower.mobi or call 011 490 7484 or 0800 202 925.

Update (10:20 SAST, 30 October 2026): Eskom says a transformer trip at its Megawatt Park substation has cut power to Sunninghill. Technicians are working to restore supply as soon as possible. Eskom has not given a restoration time (Eskom, 30 Oct, 10:02). Sunninghill is supplied by Eskom, so report outages there to Eskom on 0860 037 566.

Parts of Johannesburg are without electricity on Friday, 30 October 2026. City Power says a feederboard at Central Substation caught fire overnight, cutting power to customers in Marshalltown, and that protection cables were cut at the Orlando Switching Station, causing an outage at Eikenhof Substation that affects Rand Water (City Power, 30 Oct, 01:15; City Power, 30 Oct, 02:38). New outages were also reported this morning in Parkhurst, Northriding, Rabie Ridge, Lenasia and Ennerdale. This is not load shedding (Eskom).

Does the Eikenhof outage affect water?

City Power says the Eikenhof Substation outage is affecting Rand Water, but it has not said what that means for water supply (City Power). Rand Water and Johannesburg Water had not posted about it when we checked. Johannesburg Water's own notices already show low reservoirs in Sandton, Midrand and other systems. See Johannesburg water outages today.

City Power says power is back in Yeoville, Upper Houghton, Bruma, Kensington, Bez Valley and Observatory (City Power, 29 Oct, 23:29), Linksfield and Sydenham (29 Oct, 19:23), Weltevredenpark, Floracliffe and Constantia Kloof (29 Oct, 21:46), and the Greenstone Gate Complex and Greenstone Shopping Centre (29 Oct, 22:25).

When will power be restored?

City Power has not given restoration times for the outages above and says customers will be updated as work goes on (City Power).

City Power asks customers to switch off non-essential appliances while the power is off, so the network is not overloaded when supply returns (City Power).
