Ferndale, Northriding, Kya Sand, Moroeledal, Bosmont and Newclare are among the Johannesburg areas without power on 31 October 2026. Here is what City Power says.

Update (12:20 SAST, 31 October 2026): City Power says power was fully restored to Northriding, Tirong Estate, Kya Sand and Noordhang at 10:20, after the cable theft outage that began at about 05:00 on Friday (City Power, 31 Oct, 10:25). Bosmont and Newclare are also back on (City Power, 31 Oct, 10:47). In Maroeladal, repairs are done and operators were on their way to restore supply, with no time given (City Power, 31 Oct, 10:21). Ferndale is still off, and City Power says the team will attend to the cable fault once the Houtkoppen work is finished (City Power, 31 Oct, 10:22). At Market Boundary, operators and a contractor are on site preparing for cable repairs (City Power, 31 Oct, 10:50). A new outage is affecting parts of Wilgeheuwel, Little Falls and surrounding areas, and operators are investigating the cause (City Power, 31 Oct, 10:40).
Parts of Johannesburg are still without electricity on Saturday, 31 October 2026. City Power says repairs in Northriding, Kya Sand, Noordhang, Tirong Estate and Moroeledal were halted overnight over safety concerns, and a cable fault has left Ferndale without power since Friday evening (City Power, 30 Oct, 23:52; City Power, 31 Oct, 01:03). A new outage hit Bosmont and Newclare this morning (City Power, 31 Oct, 07:38). This is not load shedding (Eskom).

Which areas got power back?
City Power says power is back in Mayibuye after cable theft (30 Oct, 23:48), in Aeroton after an overload (30 Oct, 22:26), in Sophiatown and Westdene after cable repairs (30 Oct, 22:12), and on Minerva Avenue and Beryl Road, which had been off since 17 October (30 Oct, 21:10). Selby West also has power again as Central Substation recovers (30 Oct, 19:13).

When will power be restored?
City Power has not given restoration times for the outages above and says customers will be updated as work goes on (City Power). Switch off non-essential appliances while the power is off, so the network is not overloaded when supply returns.
