Musina ANC wins majority: 16 of 24 seats in Limpopo

Provisional IEC figures now show the African National Congress with a majority on the Musina local council: 16 of 24 seats, after all 12 wards and 79 voting districts were declared in this Vhembe municipality in Limpopo (The Outlier, update 18:52 Africa/Johannesburg on 6 November 2026; ESP Musina results from IEC data; Rateweb Musina results).

A party needs 13 seats for an outright majority on this 24-seat council. The ANC is three seats clear. Treat seats as provisional until the IEC formally declares the council.

Musina includes the Beitbridge border area and surrounds. ESP puts the ANC ward ballot share at about 67.2%, down about 2.8 percentage points from about 70.0% in 2021 for this municipality (ESP Musina). Who else won seats in Musina?

ESP's reading of the IEC ward results shows the ANC won all 12 wards. Every other party that holds a seat got it from the proportional-representation (PR) list (ESP Musina).

The DA, EFF and SACP each hold 2 seats. Freedom Front Plus and local list Migeu Ya Kasi each hold 1 seat. The SACP and Migeu Ya Kasi did not hold Musina council seats after the 2021 result on Inkmark's summary (Inkmark; ESP).

Turnout on the PR ballot is about 51.8% of the roughly 53 800 voters on the roll (ESP).

What does an ANC majority mean for residents?

With 16 seats, the ANC can elect a mayor and pass a budget without needing a coalition partner on this council. That is different from the many hung councils elsewhere in the country, where no party reached half the seats (Municipal Structures Act on SAFLII; REPORTED: hung councils explainer).
