Ekurhuleni power outages today (30 October 2026): affected areas, causes and when power returns

Update (10:00 SAST, 31 October 2026): The City of Ekurhuleni now expects power back in Brakpan at 22:00 on Saturday 31 October, with cable repairs resuming in the morning (City of Ekurhuleni call centre on X). Update (19:55 SAST, 30 October 2026): The City of Ekurhuleni has confirmed that the Brakpan outage affects the Brakpan CBD, Sallies Village, Anzac, Vulcania and Brenthurst. City spokesperson Zweli Dlamini said electrical tests show multiple faults along the cable route and that an estimated restoration time will only be confirmed once all the faults have been found (Brakpan Herald). The city's call centre said its next update would follow on Saturday at 12:00 (City of Ekurhuleni call centre on X).

Parts of Boksburg lost power on Friday morning, 30 October 2026, and Brakpan is still waiting for an estimated restoration time after more than a day without electricity. Which Ekurhuleni areas have no power today?

The city also reported outages on Thursday in Benoni (Actonville, Benoni South, Wattville, Tamboville and nearby areas, plus Mayfield) and in parts of Germiston fed by Georgetown Substation. It had not posted a restoration notice for these on X by the time of writing, so if your power is still off there, report it and keep the reference number (Thursday's outages).

What is happening in Boksburg?

The Boksburg Energy Department posted at about 09:00 that it is aware of the outage and has sent a team to investigate. It has not given a cause or an estimated restoration time yet (City of Ekurhuleni call centre on X).

Why is Brakpan still off?

On Thursday the city said further tests had found more faults along the 33 kV oil cable feeder from Van Eck to Vulcania substation (City of Ekurhuleni on X). In its latest update, posted at 07:12 on Friday, the call centre said electrical tests are still ongoing to locate the additional faults, that there is no estimated restoration time at this stage, and that "the next update will be provided tomorrow at 12:00" (City of Ekurhuleni call centre on X).

Is this load shedding?

No. Eskom's load shedding status shows no load shedding (Eskom). These are local network faults announced by the city.

How do I report a power outage in Ekurhuleni?

Make sure you get a reference number when you log a fault (City of Ekurhuleni: report it). While you wait, switch off geysers, stoves and other big appliances, then switch them on one at a time when power returns so the network does not trip again.
