What should I do while the water is off?

Keep your taps closed so nothing floods when supply returns, and keep drinking water in clean, sealed containers (City alert). Water can look milky for a short while after it comes back because of trapped air in the pipes. It clears if you leave it to stand in a glass (City of Cape Town).
