The facelifted Tata Punch is on sale in South Africa now, and it costs less than before. The range starts at R224 900, which is R20 000 cheaper than the old entry model, and the dearest version is R269 900, The Citizen reported on 30 October. Tata's own Punch page also lists the R224 900 starting price.

The update came earlier than expected. The Citizen says the refreshed Punch was thought to be a 2027 arrival, and it lands more than nine months after it went on sale in India.

How much does the new Tata Punch cost?

There are now three versions instead of five. All prices include VAT.

Every price includes a five-year or 125 000km warranty and a two-year or 30 000km service plan. That service plan is shorter on distance than before, down from 45 000km, according to The Citizen.

Is there still an automatic?

No. The five-speed automated manual (AMT) has been dropped, so every new Punch is a manual. If you wanted a two-pedal Punch, look for a pre-facelift car still in dealer stock or a used one.

The bigger news for people who found the old car slow is the turbo. The Accomplished+ gets the 1.2-litre turbo petrol from the Tata Osprey and Curvv, with 88kW and 170Nm, plus a Sport driving mode. The Pure and Adventure keep the non-turbo 1.2 with 65kW and 115Nm (The Citizen).

What do you get on the cheapest Punch?

The R224 900 Pure is well kitted for the money. Standard equipment includes six airbags, ABS, stability control, LED headlights, a reverse camera, rear parking sensors, tyre pressure monitoring, an eight-inch touchscreen, a seven-inch digital instrument cluster, rear air vents and electric windows. It rides on 15-inch steel wheels.

The R244 900 Adventure adds keyless entry with push-button start, a 360-degree camera, rain-sensing wipers, auto headlights and a cooled glovebox.

The R269 900 Accomplished+ adds 16-inch alloys, automatic climate control, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, a sunroof, wireless phone charging, six speakers and hill descent control. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are part of the update (The Citizen).

What changed on the outside?

It is the Punch's first facelift since it launched in India. The front gets slimmer LED headlights, a new bumper and grille and a silver-look skid plate. At the back, a full-width LED light bar joins the tail lights. There are six colours, and the Accomplished+ comes with a contrasting roof as standard (The Citizen).

Where can you see one?

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles South Africa says prices can change without notice, so confirm the final figure, any dealer discount and stock with a dealer before you sign. You can find your nearest dealer and book a test drive on Tata's South African site.
