The main gate at Skukuza Rest Camp in the Kruger National Park will be closed from Monday, 2 November, to Friday, 4 December 2026 while SANParks repairs its roof structure. The camp stays open. Visitors will use a temporary entrance instead (SANParks).

How do you get into Skukuza while the gate is closed?

Use the temporary entrance on Hippo Circle Street, the road that leads to the Skukuza doctor's surgery. Access runs through the AM Spa and Skukuza Safari Lodge area (Lowvelder).

SANParks will put up directional signs, and park staff will be on hand to direct cars and people on foot (The Citizen). Kruger's communications head, Rey Thakhuli, asked visitors to follow the signs and staff instructions so vehicles and pedestrians move safely (Lowvelder).

When will the main gate reopen?

The work is expected to be finished by 4 December 2026, but SANParks says that depends on the weather and other unforeseen problems (Lowvelder). If you're booked for early December, check with the park before you travel.

Do Kruger's gate times change?

No change has been announced. SANParks' published times for November are:

  • Entrance gates open: 05:30
  • Camp gates open: 04:30
  • All gates close: 18:30

These come from the SANParks day visits page, which notes that times can change without notice.

If you're running late for Skukuza, a paid escort from Paul Kruger Gate runs every half hour until 21:00 for guests with emergencies and pre-booked rooms. SANParks lists the fee at R500 per vehicle (SANParks entrance gates).

Why is the gate closing?

SANParks says the maintenance is part of its ongoing programme to keep facilities in the park safe and working, and Thakhuli apologised for the inconvenience (Lowvelder).
