Why is this result unusual?

ActionSA did not contest Laingsburg in 2021. That year it focused on six municipalities, mostly in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal (IOL). Laingsburg was among the first Western Cape councils to finish counting.

In 2021 the council was also hung, with the DA the largest party on 3 of 7 seats before the municipality grew to 10 seats this cycle (The Outlier baseline). Coalitions have changed hands since then, including a DA-ANC arrangement in 2025 (IOL).

What happens next?

No party can elect a mayor alone. Parties must agree a coalition or a minority arrangement before the first council meeting. That meeting must be held within 14 days after the IEC declares the council elected (Municipal Structures Act; Reported's hung council explainer).

ActionSA national chairperson Michael Beaumont told IOL the party intends to lead coalition talks in Laingsburg and named Beverly Forster as its mayoral candidate.

Nationally, ActionSA is on about 4.8% of the vote with more than 1 million votes counted so far on MzansiData's IEC tracker (figures still provisional). The party is also in play in hung or near-hung Gauteng metros still being counted.

How do I check Laingsburg or my own council?
