The main gate at Skukuza Rest Camp, the Kruger National Park's biggest camp, closes on Monday, 2 November 2026 and stays shut until Friday, 4 December 2026 while SANParks repairs its roof structure (SANParks).

You can still get into Skukuza. Cars and pedestrians will use a temporary entrance off Hippo Circle Street for the five weeks of work.

SANParks says the 4 December finish date depends on the weather and "other unforeseen circumstances", so the closure could run longer (SANParks).

How do you get into Skukuza while the gate is shut?

Use Hippo Circle Street, the road that leads to the Skukuza Medical Doctor/Surgery, and enter the camp through AM Spa and Skukuza Safari Lodge (SAnews).

SANParks has asked visitors to follow the direction signs and the instructions of park staff so cars and people on foot can move safely through the temporary route (SANParks). SANParks spokesperson JP Louw said motorists should get to know the new route before they arrive (IOL).

Does this affect getting into the Kruger Park itself?

No. The closure is the gate into Skukuza Rest Camp, not one of the park's entrance gates on the boundary. The SANParks notice only covers the camp's main gate and gives no other gate or road changes (SANParks).

Why is SANParks doing the work now?

SANParks says the repairs are part of its ongoing infrastructure management programme in the Kruger, meant to keep park facilities safe, working and in good condition for longer (SAnews).

If you're booked at Skukuza in November or early December, check SANParks news before you travel for any change to the reopening date.
