What's the difference between the engines?

The 2.0T petrol makes 170kW and 380Nm and uses a nine-speed dual-clutch gearbox. It's the only version offered in both 2WD and 4WD (Bizcommunity).

The 1.5T hybrid makes 182kW and 540Nm and comes in 2WD only. GWM claims fuel use of 5.3 litres per 100km on the NEDC test cycle (Bizcommunity). It doesn't plug in; the small 1.53kWh battery charges as you drive (Carmag).

The 1.5T plug-in hybrid has a 23.7kWh battery you can charge from the wall. The 2WD model makes 240kW and 540Nm with a claimed 130km of electric-only range. The 4WD flagship makes 280kW and 670Nm with a claimed 115km (Carmag). GWM quotes a combined petrol and electric range of up to 1,100km, based on its own testing in ideal conditions (GWM South Africa).

Plug-in models can also run small appliances off the car through vehicle-to-load (V2L), supplying up to 6kW (Carmag).

What warranty and service plan do you get?

Every H7 includes (Carmag, Bizcommunity):

  • Vehicle warranty: 7 years or 200,000km
  • Service plan: 7 years or 75,000km
  • Roadside assistance: 7 years, unlimited km
  • Hybrid battery warranty (HEV and PHEV): 8 years or 150,000km

Services are due every 15,000km or 12 months (Bizcommunity). GWM's cover runs for whichever limit you reach first, time or distance (GWM owner reference table).

What features come standard?

GWM lists a panoramic sunroof with an electric shade, 19-inch wheels, a 15.6-inch touchscreen, a 360-degree camera, 50W wireless charging, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and memory seats. It also quotes a 500kg payload across the range (GWM South Africa). Exact kit differs between Super Luxury and Ultra Luxury trims, so check the brochure on GWM's H7 page before you buy.
