GTA 6 costs R1,499 in South Africa. Here's when you can play it

Grand Theft Auto VI costs R1,499 in South Africa for the Standard Edition and R1,899 for the Ultimate Edition, on both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S (Hypertext, PlayStation Store South Africa). It launches on Thursday, 19 November 2026 (Rockstar Games).

That's 17 days away, and pre-loading opens a week before launch.

How much is GTA 6 in South Africa?

The local price lines up with the US price of $79.99 (Standard) and $99.99 (Ultimate) once you add 15% VAT, MyBroadband worked out. BT Games lists a digital code for R1,499 and boxed copies that carry a download code (BT Games).

The Ultimate Edition adds a collection of premium vehicles, weapons and clothing across Jason and Lucia's story, according to Rockstar's pre-order announcement. The base game is the same.

What time can you start playing on 19 November?

The game unlocks at midnight local time on 19 November, Rockstar confirmed through the PlayStation Store (NME). In South Africa that means 00:00 on Thursday, 19 November, so late on Wednesday night if you stay up.

When can you pre-load it?

If you pre-order a digital copy, you can start downloading the game on 12 November 2026 so it's ready at launch (Take-Two).

The physical version also goes on sale from 12 November, but the box holds a download code, not the full game on a disc (Take-Two). Either way you'll need to download it, so plan for your data or fibre cap.

What do you get for buying early?

Every pre-order and purchase made before 20 November 2026 gets the Vintage Vice City Pack, a set of in-game items themed on the older GTA Vice City (Take-Two).

Digital pre-orders also come with one free month of GTA+, Rockstar's subscription. On PlayStation, that free month rolls into a paid monthly subscription unless you cancel it in your account's subscription settings before the next payment date, and you have until 31 March 2027 to claim it (PlayStation).

Can you play GTA 6 on PS4 or PC?

Not on PS4. The game runs only on PS5 and PS5 Pro, PlayStation says. Rockstar has announced it for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only (Take-Two), and hasn't given a PC release date.

Could it be delayed again?

Rockstar has already moved it twice, from autumn 2025 and then from May 2026 (BBC). Its latest launch trailer again confirmed 19 November (BBC), and the date is still listed on Rockstar's website.
