Earlier in the count, with about 98% of votes in, the George Herald reported the DA leading on the vote share and ahead in 15 of 28 wards, with the PA on seven wards and the ANC on six (George Herald). How does George fit the Western Cape picture?

Across the Western Cape, Rateweb's IEC feed at midday Friday showed 23 of 25 local councils fully counted: 7 with a majority and 16 hung. Other Western Cape councils with a majority on that feed include Mossel Bay, Overstrand, Drakenstein, Swartland, Hessequa and Bergrivier. Stellenbosch and the City of Cape Town were still counting (Rateweb).

What happens next in George?

Once the IEC declares the council elected, the first council meeting must be held within 14 calendar days, where councillors elect a speaker and mayor under the Municipal Structures Act. With an outright majority, the DA can elect those office-bearers without needing a coalition partner, unless it chooses a broader deal.
