DStv Premium drops to R799 a month. The catch, and every new price

DStv Premium on a decoder now costs R799 a month if you sign a 24-month contract, down from the standard R979. That is R180 less a month, or R4,320 over the two years, and the R799 includes the Access Fee (DStv).

The deal follows a package overhaul. Since 17 September 2026, South African subscribers have been moved onto new packages called Starter, Select, Sports and Movies & Series, with Premium and EasyView unchanged (DStv).

What does each new DStv package cost?

Decoder and DStv Stream prices differ for most packages (DStv):

All prices are per month. EasyView (35+ channels) stays at R30 a month.

What is the catch with the R799 Premium deal?

You are locked in for two years. MultiChoice confirmed the offer to MyBroadband after its old Price Lock contracts disappeared from the DStv website, and said bringing Price Lock back was "unlikely" (African Insider).

Existing Premium decoder customers can sign up through the MyDStv app, the My Account section on dstv.com or the call centre. New customers have to phone the call centre on 011 289 2222 (African Insider).

Which package was I moved to?

DStv migrated subscribers automatically (DStv):

• Access became Starter
• Family became Select
• Compact became Sports
• Premium, Compact Plus and EasyView stayed as they were

Compact Plus is closed to new subscribers. DStv says you will not pay more after being migrated, and you do not need a new decoder. Your account may still show the old package name while the move happens in phases, but you still get the new channels (DStv).

What do the Sports and Movies & Series packages add?

Sports (from R399) carries every Premier League, Champions League and PSL match, SuperSport Cricket (previously Premium-only), the Currie Cup, one URC match a week and combat sports. Movies & Series (R500) adds M-Net, M-Net Movies+, kykNET, Discovery Channel and BBC Earth, plus the PSL coverage from Select (DStv).

Springbok rugby, Formula 1, golf and tennis stay exclusive to Premium "for now", DStv says (DStv).

Which channels are gone?

Mzansi Wethu, Bioskop Movies and Mzansi Music closed, with their content moved to a new channel, Wethu+, which is on every package from Starter up and shows two live PSL matches a week. kykNET Lekker was replaced by kykNET & kie, and M-Net Movies 1 and 2 merged into M-Net Movies+ on channel 106. Disney+ is no longer available on Streama and Explora boxes (DStv).

Is this happening outside South Africa?

Yes. Canal+ and MultiChoice are rolling out the same package structure across the rest of sub-Saharan Africa in phases from November 2026. Prices for those countries have not been published (Broadcast Media Africa).
