The Courier Guy's self-service lockers, formerly Pudo, send parcels anywhere in South Africa from R59. Prices per locker size, how to drop off, the 36-hour collection rule and what to do if a locker is offline.
You can send a small parcel anywhere in South Africa for R59 using one of The Courier Guy's self-service lockers, the network many people still call Pudo. More than 2,500 of the lockers are now installed, and the company is aiming for 3,000 by the end of 2026 (MyBroadband).
The price depends on the locker size you book, not the distance, so Cape Town to Polokwane costs the same as across town (Insaka).
How much does it cost to send a parcel from a locker?
These are the rates in effect from 1 September 2026, including VAT. Door delivery carries an extra monthly fuel surcharge.

That is R10 more at the bottom end than last year, when the XS locker cost R49 (MyBroadband, 2025).
How do you send a parcel through a locker?
- Register on The Courier Guy's website or app and load money into your account. Cards and EFT are accepted.
- Create the shipment: pick the locker size, the destination locker or address, and the recipient's details.
- You get a PIN or QR code.
- At any locker, touch the screen to wake it, tap Drop Off, enter the PIN or scan the QR code, put the parcel in the door that opens and close it firmly.
If the compartment is too small, tap Change on the screen for a bigger one, but the upgrade fee comes off your account. Anything bigger than XL has to go through a staffed Courier Guy kiosk (The Courier Guy FAQs).
Booking the right size upfront is the easiest way to save. A 4kg parcel in a small locker costs the same as a 1kg parcel in a small locker (Insaka).
How long can a parcel stay in the locker?
The recipient has 36 hours to collect with their PIN or QR code. After that the parcel is moved to the nearest kiosk at no extra charge. Sending it on to another locker or address from there means paying the full price again (The Courier Guy FAQs).
Someone else can collect for you if you share your PIN or QR code, though anyone with the code can open the door. Lockers inside shopping centres only work during centre hours (The Courier Guy FAQs).
What if the locker is offline?
You can cancel the shipment on the website and the money goes straight back to your wallet, then rebook to a different locker or a kiosk. If you do nothing, the booking expires after five days and the funds are credited back automatically (The Courier Guy FAQs).

What can't you send?
The Courier Guy won't ship flammable items like aerosols and lighter fluid, liquid batteries, fireworks or ammunition, perishable food, cash, precious metals or stones, animals, plants or illegal substances (The Courier Guy FAQs).
Why are lockers replacing the Post Office for small parcels?
The Post Office's low prices came from sending parcels between branches rather than to doors, but its reputation for lost and stolen parcels has pushed many people away. Lockers copy that branch model without staff, and you pay per shipment instead of renting a box (MyBroadband).
The rollout started in 2019 with 600 locations and took four years to reach 1,000. It was paused in 2024 at about 1,200 lockers because of load-shedding, until The Courier Guy switched to lockers that run on replaceable alkaline battery packs. Since 2025 the whole network has run off the grid, so load-shedding doesn't take a locker down (MyBroadband).
