Parts of Vrygrond, around Harmony Road and Drury Road, have had power problems since Friday morning because of a high voltage fault that the City of Cape Town says affects a large area. The City logged the fault at 10:47 on Friday, 30 October 2026, and logged it again at 08:14 on Saturday, 31 October, with no time given for when power will be back (City service alerts).

New faults were also logged on Saturday morning in Philippi, Lotus River and Durbanville, and the City's list shows 32 open electricity faults across the metro.

This is not load shedding. Eskom's status page shows no load shedding (Eskom), and Eskom said on Friday that systems are in place for reliable supply during the elections (Eskom, 30 Oct).

All times below are SAST.

The City has not said what caused the fault or when it will be fixed. On Friday it said its teams were attending to area faults, meaning outages that affect a number of streets or entire areas (City of Cape Town, 30 Oct).

Power can come back without warning, so switch off big appliances like stoves, geysers and pool pumps to avoid damage from a surge when supply returns, and treat all wires as live.

Which other areas have unplanned outages today?

These faults were on the City's list of open electricity outages on Saturday morning, newest first. Older entries may already be fixed and not yet cleared from the list. The City gives no restoration times for any of them.
