Akasia licensing centre closed: where to renew your licence now
Tshwane has closed the Station Square Licensing Centre in Akasia over a legal dispute about the building. Licence renewals, registrations and learner's tests have moved to other centres until Tshiamo Centre in Pretoria North opens.

The City of Tshwane has shut the Station Square Licensing Centre in Akasia, and its replacement in Pretoria North will only be ready after renovations finish at the end of November 2026. Until then, motorists who used Station Square must go to another City licensing centre (eNCA).
The closure took effect on Monday, 26 October. Roads and Transport MMC Tlangi Mogale said it follows developments in ongoing litigation over the centre's premises (Mogale's statement of 25 October, eNCA).
Which services are no longer available at Station Square?
All four of the centre's main services are suspended (The Citizen):
- Motor vehicle registration and licensing
- Motor vehicle licence (disc) renewals
- Driving licence card renewals
- Learner's licence testing
Where must Akasia motorists go now?
The City has told residents to use its other operational licensing centres while it finalises alternative arrangements (eNCA). It has not named a single centre that will take over Station Square's load.
The permanent replacement is the Tshiamo Centre in Pretoria North, which is being renovated for licensing services. Renovations should be done by the end of November 2026. After that, the City still has to complete operational and regulatory requirements before the centre can open, so no opening date has been given (The Citizen).
Mogale acknowledged the short notice. "We recognise that this transition will inconvenience residents of Akasia, Pretoria North and surrounding areas," Mogale said (The Citizen).
Can you renew your licence disc without going to a centre?
Yes, for most cars. The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) runs the official online renewal site at online.natis.gov.za. You register a profile with your ID and address, select "View Motor Renewals", pick the vehicle and pay by card. The disc is couriered to you within three to five working days (RTMC, eNatis FAQ).
The site will not print a disc if (eNatis FAQ):
- you owe licence fees on another vehicle in your name
- there is an AARTO enforcement order against you
- the vehicle needs a roadworthy certificate
- the vehicle has a police or administrative mark
In those cases you still need to visit a licensing office.
What if your disc expires while you sort this out?
There is a 21-day grace period from the expiry date on your disc. After that, late penalties and arrears apply (SA Government). If your disc is due soon, renew online or go to another Tshwane centre early rather than waiting for Tshiamo Centre to open.
Driving licence card renewals and learner's licence tests cannot be done through the disc renewal site, so those still need an in-person visit to another centre.
